Calcium supplements are in the news again and the evidence is piling up on the safety of taking too much calcium.


A previous post came to the same results. And yet another study found here warns about calcium supplements and kidney stones.

Bottom Line:

Talk to your doctor about restricting your calcium supplements especially if you have osteoporosis.   Try to get calcium from foods in lesser amounts throughout the day to avoid calcium “spikes”.  It looks like amounts less than 800 mg. (total/day) may be safe or about two calcium equivalents/day (300-400 mg) from calcium-rich foods.
