Food Safety: The Kitchen is the Heart of the Home

It appears that there are some food safety issues out there and that the government is really not trying very hard to do much about it.   I know that food safety outbreaks make the headlines,  but it is estimated that there are 50 million causes of food-borne illness in the U.S. each year (keep in mind most cases do not get reported) with about 3,000 estimated deaths.  The number is on the upswing with Salmonella driving the increase.  Interestingly, E.coli 0157:H7 cases have declined. 

In the last month there have been food contamination outbreaks in melons, cilantro, mangoes, hearts of romaine, and  romaine salad just in the last month. For info on the progress of the federal government progress to combat these outbreaks,  CLICK HERE.

The best advice is to grow your own, but obviously not all of us can do that.
