Check out this innovative program from the UK that teaches even very young children about food, where it comes from, how to prepare it with the ultimate goal of eating healthy. The younger, the better since many diet habits are formed early in life.
In contrast, the U.S. government doesn’t appear to have a clue as what to do. They come up more regulations, restrict certain foods, offer food items that kids just do not like, etc. etc. When will they some learn some lessons from other countries like France and Japan and Italy? I’ve read of some innovative programs of teaching kids to participate (hands on) in the growing, preparation, and serving of foods to their peers in these countries. I would love to know if there are any provocative and effective nutrition educations programs out there in the U.S. that are given to our elementary kids – if you know of any, please let me know.
