Another diet debate – is a high salt intake detrimental to our health or is it not? Does a high intake raise the risk of stroke and heart disease? No one knows at this point, apparently. In my opinion, this question is not easy to answer. When you consider all the variables that affect this association – no wonder science cannot come to a firm conclusion (if that is possible). Hypertension is often described as a multifactorial genetic disorder further explained HERE. Besides our genes, blood pressure is also affected by body weight, gender, age and potassium intake. No wonder the science becomes murky. Bottom Line? – guess what – MODERATION. If you have hypertension, check out the DASH DIET.
