GMO foods have long been hotly debated and almost everything you read is biased one way or the other, i.e. you’re either for them or against them. I don’t know if they are harmful and yet I don’t know if they are safe. Now the debate has switched to whether they should be labeled or not. But what seems to be apparent, Monsanto (their creators) is at the heart of the matter.
I would like to see more information from either side on the claimed benefits of GMO crops since their inception 20 years ago, particularly nutritional benefits for human health. So far, it appears that the claimed benefits only favor Monsanto that produces both the herbicide, Roundup and the seeds created by Monsanto to resist Roundup. Bring on GMO foods for better human health instead of profits for Monsanto and others and the debate on their merits may change.
Yellow rice is often proclaimed to be an example of genetically altered crop that offers nutritional benefits since it is a product designed to contain more beta carotene, a form of vitamin A that would help prevent blindness, common in developing countries.
