What Kind of Salmon Should You Buy?

An informative article on the kinds of salmon available in the supermarket.  Price matters since farm-raised salmon is most always less expensive than wild-caught.  I often buy frozen salmon or shrimp since it may be fresher than the fish found in the case.  When I ask about how long they keep thawed fish in the pan at the supermarket, the consensus that I get is that often those fish are kept for about two days.  I’m sure they are very safe, but it is a personal preference. It’s time to get our diets back on track –  don’t forget salmon which are easy to prepare, loaded with healthy fats (omega-3) and a great protein source. FrankenSalmon Has Arrived?

500x_you_could_be_eating_this__frankenfish__in_18_months

Finally genetically engineered salmon is hitting the market but only in a limited way at first.  This company has been trying to get FDA approval for several years and they finally did.  Time will tell how it is accepted; however, labeling will not apparently happen, so we won’t know.  To my knowledge this is the first GM animal available for human consumption. Will others follow??
