The Low FODMAP diet has been shown to help alleviate some symptoms associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). However, there is a conflict on to whether to “feed” your gut bacteria (microbiome) the prebiotics they need for optimum health benefits. Many high FODMAP foods are part of these prebiotics. This can be a problem with any long term restrictive diet. One thing to not do is self-diagnose or self-treat. Please consult your doctor or a knowledgeable registered dietitian for help with using the diet properly.
